using the PMI as a research tool

main menu

The Pressure Management Indicator (PMI), and its predecessor the Occupational Stress Indicator (OSI), have been subject to extensive academic scrutiny. The ongoing development of the instrument has significantly improved the validity and reliability of the scales. All of the PMI scales have acceptable levels of reliability.

We are happy for the PMI to be used by students and researchers and are keen to provide as much assistance and support as possible. If you are interested in using the PMI on a research basis, with no commercial gain, we are pleased to offer this free of charge. Please note that permission will only be given to use the PMI in its entirety and we will not grant permission to use a subset of the questionnaire.

The PMI is a compact and comprehensive questionnaire that measures the major factors involved in the stress process. The questionnaire consists of 120 questions and takes between 15 and 25 minutes to complete. Please click here to see a description of the 24 subscales contained in the PMI.

If you would like further information, the validity/reliability of the PMI is explained in detail in a paper published by the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology. The reference is as follows:
