His contribution to the management of employee wellbeing was recognised with his election as an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine. He was also an Honorary Member of the Society of Occupational Medicine. His consultancy work included advising major organisations in the UK and US on the measurement and management of employee wellbeing and the development of appropriate interventions. Stephen obtained his PhD for his work on the measurement of organisational stress and developed a highly effective stress audit process. His PhD research led to the development of the Pressure Management Indicator (PMI), the successor to the Occupational Stress Indicator (OSI), the world's first integrated comprehensive stress profile for individuals and organisations. The PMI has been translated into over 20 languages and is used extensively throughout the world in the areas of pressure management, organisational development, training, and occupational health. He is the author of ‘Managing Pressure for Peak Performance’, published by Kogan Page and translated into six languages. He is also the co-author with Lesley Cooper of ‘Dangerous Waters - Strategies for Improving Wellbeing at Work’ and ‘Managing Workplace Stress: a best practice blueprint’ (CBI Fast Track Series), both published by John Wiley and Sons, and co-editor of ‘Creating Healthy Work Organisations’, a review of best practice in the field of organisational health with contributions from some of the UK's leading organisations. The PMI and Stephen’s work on managing pressure was shown in detail in the award winning TV film, ‘Stressed Out’, a 90-minute documentary broadcast by Channel 4. He was also the Project Consultant for the award winning BBC Video, ‘The Pressure’s On’. Stephen was a frequent speaker at conferences in the UK and overseas on the subjects of occupational stress, releasing individual potential, employee wellbeing, and other management issues. Some of his clients included: Marks & Spencer, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestlé, Boots, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Orange, Hewlett Packard, Dow, Anglian Water, and Conoco, as well as many other organisations in the Public and Private Sector. |
